| 内容記述 | Recently, researchers have been claiming that in the Japanese language, subjective description is preferred, whereas in the English language, objective description is preferred. This paper considers that the difference between the two languages can be attributed to the level of description or the difference stems from the difference in the level of construal. By evaluating this consideration, I point out that the possibility that at least the differences of descriptions using “noun modifiers” and “relative tenses” between English and Japanese do not stem from the differences concerning the level of the perception but rather are just the result of the difference in the syntactic and semantic systems of these two languages. |
