Yoshiya left numerous works in the areas of stories for young girls and popular fiction, but the texts examined here are two full-length novels in magazines or newspapers: "Mittsu no Hana [Three Flowers]" (Shojo Kurabu, 1926) and "Otto no Teiso [A Husband's Chastity]" (Tokyo-Nichinichi-Shimbun, Osaka-Mainichi-Shimbun, 1936-37). These two novels both depict a cordial master and servant relationship between mistresses and their housemaids. These depictions reflected the readership of the novels, i.e. the perceptions of women employing housemaids (images of ideal housemaids). In addition,both novels also deal with social issues of the time like "disuse of housemaids" and "night school attended by housemaids."}, pages = {101--116}, title = {吉屋信子の小説にみる大正末~昭和戦前期の女中像 -『三つの花』『良人の貞操』を中心に-}, volume = {12}, year = {2011} }
