And yet it is well known these days especially in US that shareholder value management to maximize shareholder value is the fundamental in business management. Companies try to obtain a profit (especially a short-term profit) by fair means or foul, just to boost shareholder value. Therefore some companies neglect the security and the law, run their business, then many accidents and corporate scandals happen. It follows that they lose credibility, in some cases they would be driven into bankruptcy. That's why we need to appreciate the primary business role in society. The basis is not the shareholder value management. That is what many individuals directly related to a company promote shareholder management, contribute to the satisfaction for stakeholders. We have merchant family precepts well-established in Edo-period, which become a role model for business operations throughout the times, in all sorts of business fields.
