The period from birth to three years of age is an important time of remarkable development in both body and mind.\nChapter 2 of the Childcare Guidelines for Nursery Schools states, \"The development of infants is characterized by the remarkable development of senses such as sight and hearing, and motor functions such as sitting, hopping, and walking, as well as the formation of emotional bonds through responsive interactions with specific adults.\nIt has been more than two years since preschool education and childcare facilities undewr the new coronavirus began requiring caregivers to wear masks as a measure to prevent infection. Although masks are important to prevent infection, the author find it difficult to remember the names and faces of students who wear masks when the author first meet them. The author wonder how children as well as adults feel about caregivers who wear masks. Is there any impact on the children's various development including their interpersonal skills?\nBased on the responses to the questionnaire from the caregivers at the affiliated preschools of the autor’s university, it became clear that the wearing of masks by caregivers makes it difficult for them to communicate with children because their facial expressions and mouths are hidden by the masks.
