He had also defined the term “garden crafts” to include a wide range of artifacts that were used in the residential gardens as well as other garden structures and architectural elements. The important roles of the “garden crafts” were “to enjoy the outdoor life” and “to communicate with the interior” of the architecture and its garden. In addition, it became evident that Nishikawa was aiming for a comprehensive research to correlate the three professions － architecture, landscape architecture, and crafts, along with the people involved in these three professions.
